Sophie is a Principal at Yaletown, a venture capital fund manager that invests in tech companies that are digitally transforming traditional industries and prioritizing climate-resilient growth for an innovative and sustainable future. She also directs the firm’s responsible investing efforts, which incorporate environmental, social, and corporate governance factors (ESG), with a focus on alignment with the SDGs and other quality of life indicators, into investment decision-making, risk management and active ownership practices. Sophie is the co-chair of the Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (CVCA)’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and a co-founder of the Equality Fund.
Prior to joining Yaletown, Sophie was the Managing Director of Somel Investments, overseeing its private and public equity portfolios and acting as the Executive Director of its philanthropic arm, which promotes and advocates for climate justice, gender equity, and other fundamental human rights. Sophie began her career as a lawyer at McCarthy Tétrault LLP, specializing in M&A, private equity and IP law. She holds a bachelor of commerce (honours) from the University of Ottawa and a bachelor of laws from Université Laval. She lives in Montreal, Quebec and is fluent in French and English.
