Single adolescent mothers in Burundi face intense stigma and discrimination across every aspect of their lives—at home, in school and work, and throughout their communities. In the past, Burundi’s government has banned teen moms from the classroom and the barriers remain pervasive. Led by a group of young and single mothers who advocate from their own experience, AMC works to end stigma and ensure that women and girls—often displaced and refugees—gain control of their own bodies, education, and lives. With AMC on their side, young women and girls have access to a mobile clinic, a drop-in center, and support and resources to complete their education. And the world has a model for locally-led efforts to advance sexual and reproductive health.
