Crown The Woman

South Sudan

Bravely demanding girls’ and women’s rights in a young country experiencing high levels of conflict-related violence, Crown The Woman is a women-led and women-founded grassroots national feminist organization working to secure gender equality across South Sudan. Crown’s courage is matched only by its innovation and determination: through mentoring and leadership programs; advocacy for women’s participation in peacebuilding processes; and seminars, training, and public events on gender equality and women’s rights, its reach is growing across the country. A model for the transformative power of women’s leadership, Crown’s many other accomplishments include establishing the country’s first national gender-based violence hotline to provide lifesaving services to survivors, and quickly mobilizing a high-profile, national movement of people across the country to protest the rape of a young girl and demand justice.
